Excited to see my painting, What If I Told You, included in this year’s 3x3 International Illustration Annual No.19! To be included with such stellar work is a true honor. Thanks to 3x3 and the judges.
Theatre of the Imagination
In preparation of a mixed-media class I will be teaching the summer of 2023, I have rediscovered my love of assemblage and collage art.
Push the Button?
I have been getting back into making demo videos of some of the work I have been creating this past few months. In preparation of an upcoming summer 2023 workshop I will be teaching, I made a short demo video (4:41) using mixed media and old drawings to create an assemblage piece contained in an old cigar box. Hope you find it inspirational!
The Mythology of Earl and Art Fare
“ArtFare is a highly anticipated annual arts and culinary event that pairs artists and chefs in an inspired spirit of collaboration to benefit and support the restoration of Kansas City Art Institute’s Vanderslice Hall. Twelve artists and chefs will collaborate to awaken, startle, and thrill all of your senses at ArtFare, a spectacular event hosted by the Vanderslice Committee.”
It was an honor to participate and partner with Chef Todd Schulte of Earl’s Premier for the Art Fare exhibition. The sold out event was held at the beautiful 1900 Building event space.
My work displayed alongside Earl’s Premier freshly shucked raw oysters and a variety of sauces.

The opening reception will be via Zoom on September 30th. The gallery will be open 1-6 pm for visitors to see the pieces in person First Fridays; October 1, Nov 5, and Dec 3. The in-person closing reception is on Thursday, December 2nd, 5-7 pm. The Carter Art Gallery Center is located at 3201 SW Trafficway KCMO 64111.
“My work is unscripted, utilizing imperfect mark-making that is influenced by observation and imagination.”
These new images are derived from years of sketchbook experimentation with natural media. I have applied this traditional knowledge of line, texture, and shape to investigate image creation in the digital space. The same fearless mark-making, paired with bold visual textures, create compelling and diverse imagery, emphasizing the spontaneity of life with shades of allegory, all within a new media experience.

PS Speakeasy Exhibition
Exhibition of my original works on paper at Hotel Philips’ P.S. Speakeasy during the month of May.
From observation to imagination, David Terrill’s original works on paper emphasize the spontaneity of life with shades of allegory. Fearless mark-making is the backbone of David’s practice. Application of bold color through a variety of media; ink, watercolor, gouache, and pastel, to archival papers create these compelling and diverse images.
“Hidden from the long arm of Prohibition-era law, Kansas City’s speakeasies welcomed travelers and locals alike. An affectionate nod to the city’s glamorous, freewheeling nightlife in days gone by, P.S. is Hotel Phillips’ contemporary incarnation of the 1930s speakeasy.”
Psyche Inspired Lecture | February 2021
Wow, what an exciting afternoon! I had the honor and opportunity to meet and present a lecture to the amazing interns working through Arizona State University’s Psyche Inspired program.
My lecture theme was CONNECTION, which I think we all could use a little more of these days.
Psyche Inspired is a program that brings undergraduate students from any school, discipline or major together to share the excitement, innovation, and scientific and engineering content of NASA’s Psyche mission with the public in new ways through artistic and creative works.
Mission to a Metal World.
“The Psyche mission is a journey to a unique metal asteroid orbiting the Sun between Mars and Jupiter. What makes the asteroid Psyche unique is that it appears to be the exposed nickel-iron core of an early planet, one of the building blocks of our solar system.
Deep within the terrestrial planets, including Earth, scientists infer the presence of metallic cores, but these lie unreachably far below the planets’ rocky mantles and crusts. The asteroid Psyche offers a unique window into these building blocks of planet formation and the opportunity to investigate a previously unexplored type of world.”

Our competitions are open to all artists, designers and photographers at all levels—professionals, students, amateurs—in all countries. Winners and Runner-ups are featured online with winners advancing to our 100 Best Show”.
