Excited to contribute work with 76 designers from Boston, Chicago, Kansas City, and Minneapolis to support those most impacted by the pandemic.
Grids for good.
COGRID-19 is a series of risograph prints created to raise money for those most affected by the pandemic. The project brings together 19 artists from a city, each contributing to a shared grid representing their time in quarantine. The collected works are a commentary on the public health crisis and the racial, political, and environmental issues that have overtaken the year 2020. Every penny raised will be donated to worthy organizations leading the efforts to help those in need.

ICON10 | Education Symposium Speaker / Detroit, Michigan / July 2018
In 2018, I spoke at ICON10 The Illustration Conference on the subject The Sketchbook: Let’s Connect in Detroit Michigan. I was honored to present with educators from the U.S., Canada, The United Kingdom, and Israel.
“In the summer of 2017, I traveled to China with my family. While there I documented our journey and experiences in my sketchbook. The sketchbook proved helpful in communicating without speaking the verbal language but using a common visual language. The paper expands on this idea and explores the question of why we draw and how we use it to communicate.”
What is ICON?
“ICON brings together top illustrators, designers, educators, representatives, and art buyers to explore the future of illustration. Since 1999, we have produced conferences in Santa Fe, Philadelphia, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Providence, Portland, Austin, and Detroit.
ICON is committed to providing a diverse forum for an ongoing dialogue that serves the illustration, design, publishing, advertising, and academic communities.” -ICON
Miami University Miami Regionals Alumni & Students | Inaugural Alumni Masters Award | Lecture and Exhibition / 2017
When I received the notification of this award, I was speechless. My time at Miami University was unique and life-changing. My experiences with my professors and fellow students were extraordinary.
Beginning my college career at the Middletown Campus, I had the opportunity to work with Professors Mike Heiber and Gary Wheeler. Both were integral in my training as a creative, but also as an educator. Their examples prepared me as I moved on to the Oxford campus of Miami University where I studied Illustration with C.F. Payne.
As I gave my lecture and acceptance speech, I looked out into the audience and saw old and new friends, members of the college community, the community at large, along with my professor, Mike Heiber. What a joy to come full-circle in the place where it all began.

ICON9 | THE ILLUSTRATION CONFERENCE EDUCATION SYMPOSIUM | AUSTIN, TEXAS / JULY 14, 2016
I recently had an amazing opportunity to speak at the ICON9 Illustration Educational Symposium earlier this month. Educators from around the world spoke on the theme of RADICAL TEACHING; NEW APPROACHES IN PEDAGOGY. My contribution was on the subject of young creatives staying relevant in today's creative environment as it relates to my illustration elective class, MICRO.
Staying relevant in todays evolving illustration field is of the upmost importance now more than ever. There is an increasing need for illustrator/designer hybrids possessing both skill-sets in today’s market. MICRO is one way to address this need and prepare students for the competitive creative world ahead.
I was also honored to participate in the educational roundtable that took place after the educational symposium wrapped up. The subject was "How are educators today preparing students, in the classroom and online, for a changing industry and global market?" The roundtable discussion was hosted by Sam Weber, with Nannette Hoogslag, Lee Ford, Petrula Vontrikis, Lynda Weinman, Laurie Burrus, and David Terrill.
At the bottom of this post is a link to view the talk in its entirety.
